Description
Part of the Rhondda Water Scheme built in the late C19 by the Pontypridd Water Works Co. The tramway ran from Lluest Wen Reservoir (nprn 507506) to Maerdy Colliery. The upper section has been replaced by a metalled vehicle track, but there are sections of rubble-stone retaining wall above the Rondda Fach that belong with the tramway, and a bridge (nprn 507510) over a stream. The retaining walls are of 2 phases, the earlier of which is of coursed rubble stone, and includes a section adjoining the abutments of Pont Lluest Wen (nprn 308286), and the later, extending from east of the bridge, is of rock-faced stone with large copings.
Recorded as part of Uplands Initiative Survey. R Hayman, H&H, 29/09/2009.
