Description

1. Within a larger and later enclosure (nprn 507530) and close to a later sheepfold (nprn 507528). This earlier enclosure is not shown on the 1st ed county OS map. The outline of its E, W and N walls survive at ground level, except for a line of boulders on the N side, wall up to 0.5m on the uphill W side, and a short section of wall beyond the NW end. Approximately 25m N-S by 12m.
Recorded as part of Uplands Initiative Survey. R Hayman, H&H, 30/09/2009.

2. 'The stonework of this inner enclosure is noticeably different to the 19th century sheepfold that surrounds it (and in one place, clearly overlies it). The wall incorporates natural boulders and orthostats, and there is a second linear wall parallel to the existing one, but which has been largely robbed away. Between the two is a fragmentary semi-circular pen or hut about 3m across, built in the lee of natural boulders. It is possible that there were more such structures here, but were robbed to build the main sheepfold. As the enclosure closely resembles the nearby Iron Age settlements at Cefn-y-gyngon (NPRN 507471) and Padell-y-bwlch (NPRN 301343), it may therefore be early' - Paul Davis, 2020
