The quarry is cut into a south facing slope. Downhill and south of the quarry is the ruined farmstead of Ty'n-y-nant. The quarry is irregular in shape. It is excavated into level ground and has a depth of 3m. It would appear that the quarry was formed to extract walling stone. A small quarry for either building stone of hardcore for tracks or roads. The stone was shale like and probably not strong enough for any substantial building. The ground cover was bracken at the time of survey. Lewis, D.L., ArchaeoPhysica Ltd, 18/12/2009
