An extensive area of pits is shown on the 1st ed county OS map, approximately 65m N-S by 40m. The pits look artificial but there is an extensive modern excavation 30m N-S by 15m and 3m high, which reveals a core of earth and small pieces of shale, suggesting that the site is a glacial moraine and that quarrying is recent. The quarried area is now used as a sheep feeding station.
