Part of the manganese workings on Mynydd Nodol, where exploration began in 1867 and sporadic working continued to c1908. Large excavation approximately 40m long and 12m wide. Deepest at E (uphill) end, 13m deep with very steep sides; possible entrance to underground workings. Covered in moss and heather. Marked on the 1888 OS map and immediately S of a similar feature (NPRN510555).
