The Act makes it an offence to interfere with the wreckage of any crashed, sunken or stranded military aircraft without a licence. Event and Historical Information:
This Spitfire was one of the first production models built. It was delivered to 65 Squadron on 22 March 1939. Its subsequent service history includes previous accidents, such as its engine cutting out on approach and hitting an observation tower at Turnhouse on 23 September 1940 and its undercarriage collapsing during a heavy landing at Llandow on 5 August 1941. It was returned to service with 5
3 Operational Training Unit (OTU) on 16 August 1941 but, on 3 September 1941, it bellylanded while lost at Cwmffrwd, Carmarthen. This time, the aircraft was severely damaged. It was dismantled on site.
