The wreck of the KORSNAES lies in 92m of water and is orientated 190 (bow)/0100 (stern). The wreck is upright on the seabed, is 62m long, 8.2m wide and has two visible forward holds (McCartney, 2022: 194).
The wreck was originally designated by the UKHO as 'Unknown'. Research by Dr Innes McCartney (2022: 194) for the Echoes from the Deep project, following a detailed survey by Bangor University in May 2019, identified the wreck as being dimensionally, positionally, and archivally consistent with the loss of the KORSNAES (NPRN 271659). The record has been updated to reflect that research.
Event and Historical Information:
A hatch beam was recovered from the wreck by the salvage company Rizdon Beazley in 1976. The wreck was relocated by HMS FAWN in February 1981 and last surveyed by the UKHO in 2000.
