The remains of this aircraft are designated as a Protected Place under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986. The Act makes it an offence to interfere with the wreckage of any crashed, sunken or stranded military aircraft without a licence. For further information on this Act and its administration with regard to aircraft, please contact the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre, RAF Innsworth, Gloucester, GL3 1RZ.

Event and Historical Information:
This Whirlwind Helicopter was assigned to HMS Goldcrest (Brawdy) and was on a Search and Rescue test flight on the 24 July 1963. The aircraft crashed at 0915 hrs, 15 minutes after take off. The aircraft plummeted through fog and crashed into a ditch at the edge of a cornfield near Troedyrhiw Farm, just outside the airfield boundary. On crashing the aircreaft overturned, split in half and burst into flames. The three aircrew killed.
