Description
The spit is shown extending some 2.9km offshore with the annoation 'stones' on an historic chart. Admiralty Sailing Directions dating to 1870 note '...a dangerous projection of stony ground, extending out nearly 2 miles SW by W 1/2 W from the point of Mochras, and nearly parallel with the Sarn Bardig, rendering it necessary for vessesl to be careful in hauling out sufficiently after having cleared the inner end of the Sarn. It is entirely composed of loose stones, and the depth upon the site is only 5 feet at a mile offshore, and 9 feet at its outer end.'
