OS 1st edition 25in mapping shows three 'Old Coal Pits' to the south of Oxhouse farm centred SN00921120, SN00971121 and SN00981125. There is a fourth, much larger pit cenred on SN01011108. Modern aerial photography shows only a flat ploughed field for the first and fourth and an area of rough scrubland covering the second and third.
