Description
OS 1st edition 25in mapping shows a dredged channel some 225m in length leading to dock lined with tramways. The excavated quarry floor or dock extends 75m inland to a quay and on to turning or warping area measuring 58m x 27m. Tramways lead to the working faces of the quarry that were being worked at the time of the map's compilation (at SN03280544 and SN03130553). The paths of the tramway to the previous working faces in the 'Old Quarry' can still be discerned (faces centred on SN03230571 and SN03330565). Modern aerial photography shows the dredged channel clearly, the two leading arms of the quays and a tear-shaped quay on the northern side. The dock is still in use and has s permanent, floating landing stage. The quarry is largely infilled with trees.
