Description
The annotation 'Life Boat' is shown on an historic chart dating to 1873. On OS 1st edtion mapping, a rocket house, a lifeboat house, and a coastgaurd station are all shown. Modern aerial photography suggests that all three structures are no longer extant.

Event and Historical Information:
The station was established in 1872 with a lifeboat house being completed by September of that year. The house provide cover for a 30ft x 7ft 6in self-righting pulling and sailing lifeboat named the THOMAS LINGHAM. The gentleman's widow had donated £680 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institute for its purchase. Three subsequent lifeboats were similarly named. The station closed in 1924.
