Description
The charter of Laugharne dating to 1172 makes provision for two Portreeves or port wardens. The post continues today through the Laugharne Corporation, the last suriving medieval corporation in the UK. The place name 'Gosport' is shown on historic charts, but the harbour itself is now largely silted up. This fact is noted in Sailing Directions dating to 1884 - 'Laugharne inlet is so choked by high beds of mud and sand, that only small vessesl can navigate the channel, which is on the east side, at the foot of Warlo and Culver cliffs.'
