Description
Archaeological remains associated with the loss of this vessel are not confirmed as present at this location, but may be in the vicinity.

Event and Historical Information:
The BRITON was a 3ton fishing vessel belonging to the port of Aberystwyth (fishing number AB186). The BRITON left Aberaeron in company of two other boats ELLA and RED ROVER early in the morning on 1 September 1883, with master Thomas Thomas of Victoria Street, Aberaeron, and a young neighbour, David Jones, onboard. At around 6pm, the two other fishing boats returned to Aberaeron, but the BRITON could be seen still fishing some 3miles offshore. The wind had veered to the south-southeast and a sudden squall obscured the BRITON. It was not seen again.
