Description
Tenby Road is shown on an historic charts with depth of 3 -3 3/4 fathoms. Described in contemporary Sailing Directions as '? a good anchorage for vessels drawing 12 feet and under, but only with winds from SW, through west, to NE; the bottom is tough mud sand-covered and the depth 2 1/4 to 3 fathoms. The marks for a good berth are, Tenby church over the Castle ruin W 1/2 N; the southwest point of Tenby church over the Castle ruin W 1/2 N; the southwest point of Tenby bluff in line with St Catehrine's island inner extreme W by S; and Caldy lighthouse open of Skear rock, S by W 1/2 W. At night the anchor must be let go before Caldy light is shut in by St Catherine's islet, and with town north lights bearing NW by W.'
