A small rectangular building, measuring 12m x 4m with an extension to its northwestern end, is shown on OS 1st edition (pilot boathouse?). Admiralty Sailing Directions dating to 1870 note '? a convenient little cove, called Pilot's cove, where small vessels may obtain shelter under many circumstances of emergency, but the rocks and shoal patches in the way require great caution to be observed in running for it?A lifeboat is kept in Pilot's cove in constant readiness'. Modern aerial photography shows only the larger lifeboat station to the northeast although the boat house is shown on the current Ordnance Survey large scale mapping.
