Description
Lewis Morris' early chart for Aberdyfi shows three anchor symbols, one in the centre of the fairway in 2 fathoms, another closer to the northern bank in 2 fathoms, and a third in the intertidal indicating a drying berth. Admiralty Sailing Directions dating to 1870 notes 'Vessels lie abreast of the village of Aberdovey, on the north side of the river, about a mile from the outer point, and half a mile farther from the bar... Abreast of the village, is a pool with from 2 to 6 fathoms in it, northward of a stony point called Cerig-y-Pentwyn?there there is not space in the pool for more than half a dozen vessels may lie at low water, and the tides as occasionaly very strong. Vessels, however, may safely berth on the stand abreast Aberdovey.
