Description
Cloddfa Gwanas is a C19 slate quarry (nprn 401448), disused by the time of the 1890 OS map. The ruins consitute a 2-unit shelter, or 'gwal', 6.5m long and 3.5m wide located on top of a spoil tip (NPRN 527054). The N cell is 4.0 x 3.25m, the dry-built stone walls standing up to 1.4m high, but partly fallen. Entrance to W side, from level ground, whilst an opening 0.8m wide in the E side, may have been for ejecting stone waste. The S cell, 3.2 x 2.5m, is less well preserved, the stone walls at ground level only.
Recorded as part of RCAHMW Uplands Initiative Project, W B Horton, H&H, 24/09/2012.
