Description
Drum Slate Quarry (nprn 305779) was worked from the 1860s but had been abandoned by the time of the 1891 OS map. The level is entered from a quarried rockface with a prominent overhang. Beneath the overhang is a rock-cut entrance 1.8m high and 1.8m wide, partly obscured by scree, but the tunnel is only about 2m long N-S. Another rock-cut entrance is on the NW side, partly obscured by fallen rubble, with visible dimension 0.9m wide and 0.9m high. Its extent is not known. The mine is approached from a 28m long cutting on the N side, defined by retaining walls up to 1.4m high, probably to allow for a tramway to be laid.
