Description
The Beaufort Tramroad is a five and three quarter mile route to Gilwern from Beaufort through Brynmawr. In 1795 it opened using edge-rails, although the tramroad was later converted to plate-rails and then back to edge-rails. It was owned by Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal and ran on the north side of Clydach Gorge. In 1860 the tramroad closed above Brynmawr, and the remainder closed in 1908 after a lifetime of carrying pig iron and coal.
