Description
The annotation 'LB' is shown on OS 2nd edition mapping with a slipway running under the railway 40m to the south. Sailing Directions dating to 1884 also note 'A lifeboat is stationed at ferryside' and the annotation is shown on a contemporary chart.

Event and Historical Information:
The first lifeboat arrived in 1835 to provide assistance to vessels navigating the shallow waters and shifting sandbars of Carmarthen Bay. Dwindling river traffic eventually led the RNLI to transfer the last of its six Ferryside lifeboats to Angle in 1960. However, in response to an upsurge in leisure usage in the estuary, the Llanelli division of St John Cymru organised a replacement service in 1966. This service continues today operating independantly from the RNLI, but responding to 999 calls under the control of HM Coastguard from the Yacht club slipway to the north.
