Event and Historical Information:
The EXLEY was a wooden sloop built at Kingston-upon-Hull in 1840. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 29.61gt; Length 47.9ft; main breadth to outside of plank 15.7ft; depth in hold 6.2ft; 1 deck, 1 mast, sloop rigged, round stern, carvel built, framework wood. At time of loss, the vessel was owned by the Berriman family - Eliza Berriman of Newport, Pembrokeshire, widow (24 shares); Richard Berriman of Newport, gentleman (20 shares); Mary Eliza Berriman of Newport, spinster (20 shares). The smack's port of Cardigan Shipping Register entry (6 in 1861) is closed with the annotation - 'Lost on the rocks of Pencaer, Strumble Head, 3 April 1871. Certificate of Registry returned and cancelled. Registry closed 8 April 1871.'
