Built in Art Deco style to the designs of Sidney Colwyn Foulkes (1884–1971). Built for Deeside Enterprises Cinemas, opening on 26th December 1938. The auditorium could provide for 1,100 people in stalls and circle. Exterior built in grey brick with three decorated square grilles above the canopy which contained mythical figures. The proscenium was 35 feet wide and had silver columns on each side and panels above containing the signs of the Zodiac. The cinema was later renamed Wedgewood Cinema and re-decorated in 1967, before being taken over by Mecca Ltd. in January 1975 and turned into a bingo hall. It was recently used as the Palace Bingo Club before closing c.2011 and re-opening as the Gaumont Plaza Cinema in 2016. It is Grade II Listed as a fine example of 1930s cinema with particularly interesting interior.
