Description

A platform is located a few metres downhill from a track which passes through Clyne Wood from Mill Lane. It measures 9m (N-S) by 7m, its long axis aligned with the contour. The terrace is well defined and has been cut back to a depth of 1m and built out to a height of 1m. The lip of the terrace extends for a further 5m beyond the platform hood on the south side. The site is located amongst Oak stands but the platform itself is largely free of trees.
The function of the platform is unknown. The lack of charcoal dust makes it improbable that it was connected with charring. A stance for a building is the most likely explanation of this site though no obvious date attaches to it.

Discussed, and illustrated, in D.K.Leighton 'The land-use history of Clyne Wood and the evolution of the Clyne landscape' (Studia Celtica 1997)
