The David Evans Department Store was designed and built by the Chief Architect of the Cwmbran Development Corporation, Gordon Redfern, as a key architectural and commercial element of the Town Centre scheme. It opened in September 1964 and was a strong design with dark, vertical, timber 'fins' to the upper floors. 

In 2021, when the store was in use as a House of Fraser shop, a scheme of recladding was underway.
