Description
1. This cairn was visited in 1981 as part of a programme of studying structured round cairns in west central Wales (1). It lies at 290m above OD on a shelf overlooking the Mawddach estuary. The stony mound measures 12m in diameter and 1.5m high. Within its perimeter lies a discontinuous ring of upright and fallen orthostatic slabs. Excavations in the nineteenth century revealed a covered, partitioned cist, seemingly empty apart from a roughly convex pointed piece of stone. The cist is no longer visible though the excavation trench is.
Adjacent to the cairn on the east, and not previously recorded, is an arc of slabs and blocks barely protruding through the turf and mostly obscured by it. Their disposition suggests a ring about 5m in diameter.

2. An oval shaped stone cairn, 11 m by 12 m in size, 1.2 m maximum height. Occasional large stones around the circumference suggest it may have had a kerb. A sub rectangular excavated area 5 m long and 1.5 m wide projects into the centre from the south east probably the result of 19th century excavations by W. Wynne Ffoulkes (Archaeologia Cambrensis III New Series, 65-68).
