Description
Carmarthen Burial Board acquired a ten acre cemetary site in the 1850s. At this time cemeteries had become horticultural showplaces of civic pride, and Carmarthen Cemetary Garden was planned with formality and taste. The cemetery is depicted on historic (1890-1936) Ordnance Survey mappiing. Two chapels of rest are depicted, one Nonconformist and one Anglican (NPRN 12672). At some point in the twentieth century trees were planted of which several large yews survive. The cemetary has been extended to the south-east since 1936.
