The cottages in Baker Street may be early, part of 'a distinctive early building type within the town has affinities with the regional rural vernacular — compromising one and a half storeys, with hipped or gabled dormers, and gable end (and sometimes lateral) chimneys.' Although none of these buildings have been specifically dated, 'a row of almshouses [on Baker Street] (demolished in the twentieth century) were thought to have been built in 1616.'
