Royal Commission aerial photography on 4th March 2022, together with Welsh Government LiDAR cover, indicate low earthworks enclosing the eastern side of a bluff at Wood, above Newgale, measuring approximately 185 on the E side. Roman coins found nearby and registered with the Portable Antiquities Scheme suggest a potential Roman military site in the locality. Whilst not convicing as a diagnostic Roman enclosure, these earthworks may indicate further archaeology in the vicinity or the presence of a Roman fort.
