Description

Cropmarks of a concentric antenna-style defended enclosure were discovered during RCAHMW aerial reconnaissance on 10th July 2018, during the 2018 drought, to the east of Troedyraur village. The enclosure, of Iron Age type, comprises an inner broad-ditched curvilinear enclosure with a flat side on the W flanking the gate, surrounded by a wide-spaced outer enclosure with a narrow ditch - possibly an outer palisade trench. The enclosure measures approx. 100m in diameter overall, and is sited on the remarkably steep south-facing slope of a broad east-west ridge above a minor stream valley. The steepness of the slope must have effected how the enclosure was used in prehistory.
