Description

Royal Commission aerial reconnaissance during the 2018 drought, on 10th July, recorded a narrow-ditched, concentric square enclosure in parched pasture west of Ty'n-llan and St Gwynin's Church.

The concentric square enclosure measures approximately 30m across, and has the superficial appearance of a Roman temple or small villa. Cropmarks of a ditched waterway are visible just to the west, running north-south, along with a small square enclosure to the north-west. Some of these may be related to map records for an 'aqueduct', perhaps associated with a mill, recorded by the Gwynedd Archaeological Trust (PRN 34278). The fields here have been extensively re-planned since the C19th County Series mapping.
