Royal Commission aerial reconnaissance on 10th July 2018, during the 2018 drought, recorded cropmarks of a sub-circular ring ditch or plough-levelled barrow measuring approx. 12m diameter, in pasture behind and to the south of Tan-y-ffron house. Some 50m south-east, part of a curving ditch of a potential second barrow can be seen, partly underlying the modern country lane.
These new cropmarks may be related to the 'cairn', NPRN 302373, which lies 200m south, and indeed to the nearby Penarth Neolithic tomb, potentially representing a wider prehistoric funerary and ritual landscape on this coastal plain.
