A complex set of low earthwork banks and enclosures occupy the unimproved valley around Rath Cottage, in the eastern lee of the great defences of Deer Park coastal promontory fort. The valley is served by a small well and a stream which runs north to Martin's Haven. It has escaped the effects of modern intensive cultivation. The remains extend for some 140m north-south, from the modern lane in the north accessing Martin's Haven slipway to the south of Rath Cottage. They appear to describe farming enclosures, with a possible house site to the south of the cottage. Further long house remains have been identified to the north-west, built against the promontory rampart.
The remains could be of any date, from later prehistoric, to early medieval to post medieval.
