Description

A tower built to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII (1902), located within Dinas Gynfor Hillfort at Llanlleiana Head, the most northerly point on mainland Wales. The structure is reported to have functioned as a watch tower and/or summerhouse and was built by a local sea captain (see Weatherman Walking). From the tower there are extensive views out to sea and across to the Skerries, Middle Mouse, East Mouse, Point Lynas and, on a clear day, the Isle of Man, 70 kilometres to the north.

The tower, now a ruin, sits within a circular stone walled enclosure c.14 metres in diameter and is brick built with a cement render.  It is hexagonal in shape with a doorway in the south face and windows on all other sides, that on the northern seaward side housing a larger bay window.  The roof is flat and surrounded by a low parapet containing a gap on the south side presumably to enable access onto the roof.

Windows, floorboards, door and all fixture and fittings have been removed. The floor appears to have been raised above a cellar, and there is evidence of a former fireplace set in the southwest wall.

The tower lies within the Scheduled Area of Dinas Gynfor Hillfort (AN038).
