Believed to have opened in 1903 as Alltwen Junior School, which replaced earlier Gellinudd School (1874). School appears on OS 25-inch Third Edition (1913-16). In June 2021 the Council voted to close the school, along with Godre'r Graig Primary School (NPRN 413841) and Llangiwg Primary, with the aim of building new primary school on land in Parc Ynysderw, Pontardawe.
