Description
On a NW-facing slope to the SE of Nant Gwythwch, at about 320m above OD, lies a sub-rectangular enclosure. It is situated between two parallel bands of limestone outcrop, running NW-SE. The enclosure measures internally 22m (NW-SE) by 21m and is bounded by rubble walls up to 2.5m wide and 0.6m high, the NE and SW sides being scarped inwardly. There is a possible entrance approximately midway along the SE side. Within the enclosure are two small roughly triangular sub enclosures. Each is bounded on one side by the enclosure wall and elsewhere by vague banks up to 1m wide and 0.2m high. The first projects from the SW side and measures internally 6m (SW-NE) by 4m; the second, against the NW side, measures 4m (NW-SE) by 3m. Superficially the enclosure appears fairly recent in date, but the internal structures suggest the possible re-use (as a fold?) of a much older site - perhaps a prehistoric homestead.
