Description
A rectangular enclosure, probably of Post-Medieval date, lies immediately S of a minor road on open land at 315m above OD.
It measures approx. 17m (E-W) by 15.5m overall and is cut into the hillside on the S. There is a probable entrance gap 1.5m wide at the W end of the N wall. The turf-covered banks are up to 1.2m high on the N x 2m wide at the base, and an annexe of similar construction measuring approx. 4m (E-W) x 10m is built against the W wall. 4m to the SW are vague turf-grown remains of a rectangular structure approx. 5m (E-W) x 4m overall & up to 1m high. There are 1.5m-long
extensions to the N of the E and W sides. Between this and the road is a turf-grown bank 1.1m high, approx. 6m long (E-W), curving to the N at its E end for a further 3m. The site is overlooked by the remains of at least seven lime kilns and associated quarrying on the S, whilst on the N side of the road, also unenclosed, are the turf covered remains of a further four kilns.
