Description

Within an area measuring 250m east to west by 200m lie the remains of former limeworking, including kilns, burnt lime, quarried rock exposures and spoil. About nine large kilns are visible, surviving mostly as earthworks several metres across and 2m or more high; prominent examples are at grid references SN 72191930, SN 72241932, SN 72261926 and SN72341927. Some drystone coursed rubble walling is occasionally visible. Causeways between quarry faces and loading platforms can also be seen in a number of cases; further kilns may be obscured by deposits of lime and spoil.
