Description

1. A group of 21 limekilns is located on the SE face of Foel Fraith. All are associated with quarried limestone exposures, which usually lie behind the kilns, and heaps of burnt lime which are to be found in front of the kilns. All the kilns are ruinous but some structural detail is occasionally evident. In most cases single drawholes are visible, but at least two double kilns are also included.
The most prominent kilns are at: SN76431795, SN76551773, SN76471772, SN76451769, SN76431772 and SN76321771. All measure 5m or more across with heights in excess of 1.5m.

Area marked as `Old Limekilns' on O.S. County Series 6" sheet 1st edition (1891).
