First furnace built by Mathew Wayne in 1827-8. Two furnaces in blast by 1854. Two further furnaces added 1855-6. The furnaces were blown out in 1875 in the great iron industry depression of the early 1870's. One worked breifly in 1875, but a source of this time says 'Gladlys is a wreck'.
