Brecon & Merthyr Railway: Part of Deri Junction - Pant section of the main-line.

The Rhymney branch of the railway was completed in 1868 and closed in 1963. It runs NNW-SSE across the north end of Gelligaer Common from Dowlais to Fochriw. Most of its course has been destroyed by land reclamation but a surviving section 400m (north-south) is embanked, whilst north of Pontlottyn Road is a former cutting that was part of a landfill operation at the time of survey in 2013. Branches from the railway served Tunnel and Fochriw Pits.
