Description
Hill's Tramroad was a two feet (600 mm) gauge plateway, opened throughout by 1821 and built to convey limestone from Tyla Quarries (principally Tyla West: nprn 91607) to Blaenavon Ironworks (nprn 34134), coal and limestone from Pwll Du to the coalyard (nprn 91611) and limekilns (nprn 91612) at Llanfoist, cast iron from the Ironworks to Garnddyrys Forge (nprn 34137) and wrought iron thence to the wharf (nprn 34553) at Llanfoist on the Brecknock & Abergavenny Canal (nprn 85124). Individual sections are described under: nprn 260437 for a section south of Pwll Du tunnel (nprn 85830), nprn 34965 for the Garnddyrys Forge section, and nprn 260678 for the section between Pwll Du tunnel and Tyla Quarries.
