Description
Price Town. Townscape and vanished mine.
DKL 1999

Price Town lies in Ogmore Vale within the South Wales valleys. A typical mining town with its rows of compact terraced housing, Price Town grew up in the late 1800s around the mining industry within the valley. Wyndham Colliery lies to the west and Western Colliery/Ocean Colliery is located to the north of the town. Pricetown developed rapidly over a short period. The 1st edition Ordnance Survey county series mapping of 1875 shows an area of upland pasture with just a few dwellings. By the 2nd edition, in 1899 Price Town is clearly defined as a typical mining town. With the decline of mining and the closure of the mines in 1984, Price Town has since undergone development and regeneration.
