Description
Dinas Junction was a station on the standard-gauge line between Caernarfon and Afon Wen at the northern terminus of the North Wales Narrow Gauge Railways. The NWNGR, later Welsh Highland Railway, closed in 1937 and the standard-gauge line in the 1960s.
In 1997, work started on the Welsh Highland Railway Project to restore the line. Caernarfon is now (2009) linked through Dinas Junction (narrow-gauge track has been laid on the former standard-gauge formation) to Porthmadog, where a link has been made with the Ffestiniog Railway (nprn 34660). Dinas is a sizeable complex for the WHR with workshops, sidings and a locomotive depot.
