The western bridge, known as the Cleveland Bridge (after the contractors, the Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Co. Ltd.), of the A48 Neath by-pass road (nprn 91602) crosses the River Neath Navigation (nprn 91663), Neath Canal (nprn 34444) and various minor railways and roads . The bridge consists of a 17-span steel viaduct some 585m long, carried on steel and concrete piers. It was completed in 1955. The river navigation is crossed by the central span of 91m. (see Aerofilms WAW034036).
