Description
A group of cairns, numerous and irregular in shape, are located on a roughly level platform towards the S end of Graig Fawr, on common land just beyond its interface with nearby farmland. They form a roughly linear group to the immediate W of which is a curvilinear bank. These features were first noted on aerial photographs (1).
The cairns are stony mounds overgrown with grasses, heather, bracken and mosses. Some of the fainter mounds stand out because heather grows upon them preferentially. They range in size from 2.5m to 7m across and 0.3m high.

At the E edge of the group, near the farm boundary, are two large irregular cairns which contain significant amounts of loose stones and are perhaps of more recent date:

The bank is probably of post-medieval date, though it is not clear if the cairns are contemporary with it. The bank appears to radiate from contemporary enclosures so may therefrore represent an unsuccessful attempt at extending land-use on to the common. However, since it is detached from adjacent farmland it may equally reflect land-use activity pre-dating that represented by modern enclosures.
