Description

The Green Mission Room was originally built in 1675, modified in 1769, rebuilt in 1866 (by architect Thomas Thomas of Landore),rebuilt in 1886 and again in 1909. The present undnominational Mission Room, dated 1905, is built in the Art Deco style with a gable-entry plan.

In a letter published in the Neath Guardian, 7 Feb 1930, the sender Philip [James] Braine (who was living in Australia at the time) states that he and [Arnee] Frank Dymond were the co-founders of the Green Mission some 50 years ago [1880]. This seems to tie up with an article published in Bridgend and Neath Chronicle 9 Aug 1889: THE GREEN MISSION ROOM, NEATH. A \" forward movement\" is being made by the earnest-souled young men who carry on religious work in connection with the Green Mission. An effort is being put forth in the direction of securing expected that more favourable conditions the good - work will grow and in larger manure than It has done hitherto. For thirteen years past mission services, a Sunday School, and other meetings have been conducted on the Green, under the auspices of the Young Men\'s Christian Association in a small mission room.
