DescriptionThe dams, reservoirs, tunnels and 73 mile aqueduct of the Elan Valley Water Scheme (nprn 96459) in mid-Wales were built to supply clean water to the city of Birmingham in the English midlands.
The aqueduct connected the water take-off point (Foel Tower (nprn 32527) in Garreg-ddu Reservoir (nprn 309541)) to Frankley Reservoir in Birmingham; the system operated entirely by gravity and no pumping was required.
