Temperance Hall was constructed in 1858 and comprised of an auditorium seating 1,500 people, a temperance hotel, committee rooms, a library and temperance coffee house.
The Hall was converted into the New Theatre and Hippodrome in 1895 when alterations were made to the interior and facade and a portico was added. In 1918 it was renamed the Palladium and was used as a cinema until it was converted for use as a bingo hall.
