Pentrehafod School is located on the former site of the waste product dumping ground for the Morris family copper works. A community sports facility, including an AdiZone (NPRN 418771) is located within the school grounds.
As part of Welsh Government's 21st Century Schools Programe, refurbishment and remodelling took place in 2016-18 (approximately 60% heavy remodelling and refurbishment and 40% demolition and rebuild) which has provided the school with a wide range of new spaces, such as a new art wing, a wide range of general teaching spaces, dedicated ICT rooms, new reception, upgraded hall, a state of the art science wing, a new library as well as an improved teaching kitchen. Work carried out by Morgan Sindall at a cost of £15m. The new facilities were officially opened by former Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton in April 2019.
